The Davis Guitar Works Custom Shop is the home for the guitarist who wants a truly unique instrument, “one-off” design that will be unique in the entire world.

The Davis Guitar Works WB guitar is an homage to the classic lines of Fender and Mosrite guitars, as well as such contemporary guitars as those by Paul Reed Smith, but with a style all its own. The featured guitar, owned by a collector of custom guitars in New York City, has a highly-figured quilted maple top over a Honduran mahogany body. The neck is three-ply, two of which are mahogany to match the body, with a center accent strip of curly maple. The electronics are three Fender® Custom Shop single-coils controlled by a single volume / tone pots and a three-way switch.

The genesis of the Davis Guitar Works Octave 12-String guitar was my desire to emulate the sound of a mandolin, but expand the sonic spectrum beyond the limits of an eight-string instrument.
This example, like most Davis Guitar Works guitars, features unique, high-quality exotic woods, in this case a combination of spalted and figured clear mango I hand-selected on the island of Maui, Hawaii. To celebrate the spirit of “aloha”, the lacquered mango fingerboard is graced by a beach-side palm tree of paua shell, and black and gold pearl, and is tortoiseshell bound. The electronics are a red Lace Sensor set in a paua shell inlaid surround, controlled by a single volume and tone pot. To hear an Octave 12 in action, go to The Big Ugly Guys website.
